The BEYOND Conference Quiet Space is a collaborative design with composer and sound artist Sara Wolff.

Our shared vision is to create spaces for neurodivergent people that promote sensory calm and inclusion through thoughtful design and sound. Developed for BEYOND Conference 2025, the Quiet Space brings together visual design, sound, and research to create moments of respite within busy event environments.

Research on design preferences for Quiet Spaces shows that, globally, neurodivergent communities value environments that foster a connection to nature. Inspired by these findings, we create Quiet Spaces that are both visually and sonically connected to local green spaces, offering moments of calm in places where access to quiet and nature can be limited.

The BEYOND Quiet Space draws inspiration from Platt Fields Market Garden in Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield. Fabric banners reflect the garden's vibrant colours, while a binaural soundscape incorporates on-site field recordings.

By connecting Quiet Spaces with community green spaces, we aim to highlight where people can discover moments of stillness and nature within their existing surroundings.
